Welcome To Life Guide Devotional

Hey, Welcome to the devotional section of our website. God called everyone to have a personal relationship with Him and that involves reading the bible everyday, figuring God’s plan for your lives. But many times, we don’t know what to read. The bible is so big, it’s hard to find something to read and meditate on. That’s where I come in. My goal is to help other teenagers find scriptures they can read and messages they can meditate on. Life Guide Devotional breaks down the message of the bible and relates it to regular circumstances. So please, study the Word of God with me as we grow together.

Chastening

Hebrews 12:1-11

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Sin is easy to do. Its goal is to draw us away from God and get us hooked so yes, it’s easy. However, to run the race God has given us we have to remain free from sin. It’s like a runner running with ankle-cuffs. He can try as much as he wants but he will never win because the chains hold him back. In this case, the runner would have been much better served not putting on the chain in the first place. We hear a lot about renewing our minds in God’s Word daily, but why? In God Word we have admonitions like, “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” So when we do fall into sin we can submit ourselves to God and let Him chasten us. When we face the consequences of our sins, we can resist it easier the next time.

Access to God

Ephesians 2:11-22

Ever felt alone? We all have. There are times in life, sometimes even in the midst of a crowd, when we feel lonely. There are days when nobody is around to hear our needs. Sometimes we accomplish something and nobody is there to celebrate with us. Nobody except Jesus. When He came and lived on earth and died for our sins, He not only gave us salvation, He broke down the walls of separation between man and God. And now He is there whenever we need Him. “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.” Do we have a need or a testimony? God is listening. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t prayed in a while, when you call to Him He will listen. John 1:12 tells us that we are sons of God through Jesus Christ and as our Heavenly Father, God is waiting to hear us when we talk to Him.

Readiness

Matthew 24:36-44

We are soldiers in God’s army. God’s army is similar to other armies in that we are called to do battle and we will not always have advance warning. That’s why Jesus warns us to be ready. What will differentiate between those who go and those who stay at the rapture? It will be the state of their heart’s readiness. Have they kept themselves pure? Have they remained armed in the armour of God? When we do battle in the Spirit, what will determine those who overcome and those who fall? The same power works in us all but those who have learned to tap into that power will be able to withstand the wile of the devil. When it comes to spiritual warfare and the rapture, readiness is the key word. Are we ready? Are our minds renewed daily through God’s Word? Do we strengthen ourselves daily in the presence of our king? If we are not always ready, how can we be good soldiers for God?

Bound to God

Romans 6:15-23

What are the wages of sin? What are the rewards are get after living a long self-gratifying life of sin? “For when you were slaves of sin… what fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed?” In sin, there were consequences to everything. Though we may have gotten away with some things, our conscience always let us know there was an inevitable day of reckoning. Jesus freed us from sin and the guilt that comes with it, why would we want to go back? There are two sides in the spiritual world: God and sin. When the bible says Jesus freed us from sin, it means now we serve Him. Serving God is a sacrifice. It doesn’t always feel good the way sin does. But the fact of the matter is, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Common Cents

Mark 12:41-44
[Jesus said,] “This poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury.” —Mark 12:43
In 1987, Mike Hayes, a freshman at the University of Illinois, found a unique way to finance his education. He convinced a popular columnist at the Chicago Tribune to ask his readers to “send in a penny for Mike.”
“Just one penny,” Hayes said. “A penny doesn’t mean anything to anyone. If everyone . . . looks around the room right now, there will be a penny under the couch cushion . . . or on the floor. That’s all I’m asking. A penny from each of your readers.”
In less than a month the fund was up to 2.3 million cents. Donations came in from all over the US, as well as Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas. Mike eventually ended up with $28,000!
The common cent just isn’t worth much—unless it’s added to a whole bunch of other pennies. The woman we read about in Mark 12 gave the equivalent of a fraction of a penny, which was “all that she had” (v.44). But Jesus honored that little bit.
The widow’s sacrifice was an example and an encouragement to the disciples—and to us. She gave all she had. Have we ever been so generous? Jesus used an unnamed widow to teach us what giving is all about.
It was less than a cent, yet it was a priceless gift of love to God. — Cindy Hess Kasper
One grace each child of God can show
Is giving from a willing heart;
Yet, if we wait till riches grow,
It well may be we’ll never start. —D. De Haan
God looks at the heart, not the hand; the giver, not the gift.

Ending With Praise

Psalm 149:1-150:6

I like to look at the psalms as a progression through prayer. First we have the first few psalms extolling God’s greatness and might. We have lots of supplications and prayers. The psalmists pray about all types of things, from enemies seeking to overwhelm them to their relationship with God. We have psalm 119 that deals with the value of God’s Word. You can find pretty much any prayer for any point in your life in the psalms. Then we get to the end and it’s all about praise. Because when it’s all said and done, we have reasons to praise God. He made us, He cares for us, He saved us and gives us a destiny. Both psalms 149 and 150 start the same way, “Praise the Lord!” I love the exclamation mark because it sets the tone for our praising. God inhabits the praise of His people and in our praise, we should desire to build the biggest, shiniest palace for our God. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord

idle hands

Romans 13:8-14

The devil finds work for idle hands. This saying might very well have been derived from Romans 13:14, which says, “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” Verse 12 says, “Therefore let us cast off the works of the darkness and let us put on the armor of light.” We have work to do in God’s Kingdom. We are His ambassadors, His soldiers, His vessels. We pray so that He can move on this earth. We witness to unbelievers so the Holy Spirit can convict their hearts to righteousness. We walk according to His will so that others can be blessed through us. When we are not doing these things, we are making provision for the flesh to fulfil its lusts. So it’s important, “knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand.” The day means it’s time to get to work. God needs us.

Nowhere To Hide

Psalm 139:7-12

We know the story of Jonah. God called him to preach to a hostile audience in Nineveh and he got scared and he decided to run away from God. He found out the hard way just how hard that is. God knows everything. David acknowledges this in today’s scripture. He says, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” This may seems scary but God’s omnipresence gives us two distinct benefits. First is accountability. Constantly battling the flesh is difficult even though we want to live righteously. Knowing that God is a witness to everything is a blessing because it makes us accountable in all our actions. I don’t want my mom to see me cheating a t school and I definitely don’t want God to see so I don’t do it. The second advantage is knowing that God is there when you call. 2 Chronicles 16:9 says, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” God is there for you anywhere because He is everywhere.

What We Do

Micah 6:6-8

How are we being Christians? Are we trying to do things to validate our faith? The people of Israel here were trying to prove their righteousness to God by offering to do actions. They wanted to sacrifice calves or dedicate their children or give money to please God. This is not a message saying not to give, but it’s not the most important thing. It’s all about your heart. “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” It’s not what you do that pleases God, it’s your heart. A person who loves God but can’t give a thousand dollar tithes will still receive favour. A youth who deals with other people fairly will be blessed even though he doesn’t fast every week. A girl who values her body is blessed even if she doesn’t wear the long skirt and flowery hat. Our faith is not about following a bunch of rules, but having a heart for God.

Conform Vs. Transform

Romans 12:1-8

Conform: to act in accord with the prevailing standards, attitudes, practices, etc., of society or a group. The biblical use in today’s scripture can be alluded to wearing a mask. Some Christians say they can’t serve God because, “This whole Christian thing doesn’t suit me.” Well the bible says that in reality, not serving God is what doesn’t fit a believer. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds that we may prove what is that good and acceptable will of God. Transform: to change in condition, nature, or character; convert. We are to continually grow and be changed into the likeness of God. Unlike conforming, transforming is about your true nature. It’s not a mask, it’s who you are. To be transformed requires daily renewing of our mind. That helps us focus on God and desire to be true Christians: imitators of Christ

Quarrels

Proverbs17:14-19, 27-28

Quarrels. We have those all the time when we disagree with someone else. But at the end of an argument, someone ends up looking bad, sometimes both parties end up losing some dignity or respect. The easiest way to avoid this is simply not to argue. Proverbs 17:27 says, “He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.” When a fight starts, it’s hard to stop. It’s easier to not get into it. We don’t always have to be justified and sometimes, staying out of a fight earns more respect than winning it. We are Christians and are urged to live at peace with all men (Romans 12:19) and to avoid useless quarrels (Titus 3:9).

Longinf For God

Psalm 42

I have had hard times in my life. I have had hard times in different stages of my life. Before I was saved, I remember always trying harder to fix everything and many times ending up frustrated. And then I got saved and knew the wonderful love of God. When the first major issue came up in my life, I ran to God. I was so tired of trying and trying and I so desperately needed God and He delivered. So when I read this psalm and the psalmist says, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul for you, O God,” I can relate. When you are down, turn to God. “Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.” God is not a cosmic slave-driver expecting us to work for Him only. He is our Heavenly Father and He loves it when His children come to Him with their burdens with faith, knowing He has the power and desire to carry them.

If You Love Him...

John 14:15-24

This is the simple distinction between believers and unbelievers. Jesus said it in the most basic way possible, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word…. He who does not love Me does not keep My words.” There are many people who claim to be believers but don’t do God’s Word. Jesus had a word for them: hypocrites- people who worship with their lips but their hearts are far from Him. The world likes to say, “Everyone has a vice.” We as Christians don’t subscribe to that. We don’t have a sin that we condone in our lives. David said, “Search my heart and know my thoughts. See if there is any iniquity in me.” We will make mistakes and miss the mark once in a while, but as Christians our lifestyle is based on the Word. The Word say don’t lie, steal, use foul language, cheat, get drunk, sleep around, etc. That means I don’t lie, steal, use foul language, cheat, get drunk, sleep around, etc. If we love Jesus, we keep His commandments.

Treasures in Eternity

Ecclesiastes 3:14-22

“So I perceived that nothing is better than that a man rejoice in his own works, for that is his heritage. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?” We have a limited time span on earth before we go on to be judged. We can spend our entire life on earth making money and making friends, but that doesn’t help us after death. Solomon here says that we should focus on doing good because it is in our works that we a judged. We are saved by grace, but we have to give an account to God for what we did with our salvation. Here on earth, we may be able to get away with living for ourselves because no man is God and so nobody can judge us. But God will judge the righteous and the wicked. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there also your heart will be.” We can fix our heart on earth, or we can look beyond and work to store up treasures for ourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Everyone has treasures. Will yours help you after death?

Pay It Forward

READ: John 13:3-15
I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. —John 13:15
Pay It Forward is a movie about a 12-year-old’s plan to make a difference in the world. Motivated by a teacher at his school, Trevor invites a homeless man to sleep in his garage. Unaware of this arrangement, his mother awakens one evening to find the man working on her truck. Holding him at gunpoint, she asks him to explain himself. He shows her that he has successfully repaired her truck and tells her about Trevor’s kindness. He says, “I’m just paying it forward.”
I think this is what Jesus had in mind in one of His last conversations with His disciples. He wanted to show them the full extent of His love. So before their last meal together, He took off His outer garment, wrapped a towel around His waist, and began to wash His disciples’ feet. This was shocking because only slaves washed feet. It was an act of servanthood and a symbol that pointed to Jesus’ sacrifice, passion, and humiliation on the cross. His request to His disciples was: “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14). They were to “pay it forward.”
Imagine how different our world would look if we gave the kind of love to others that God has given us through Jesus. — Marvin Williams
Christ’s example teaches us
That we should follow Him each day,
Meeting one another’s needs,
Though humble service be the way. —Hess

To know love, open your heart to Jesus. To show love, open your heart to others.

In Our Stength

Romans 3:9-20

Christians are not better people. Before we were saved, we looked exactly like the world. The only difference is now we have God on the inside of us working in us. In our own strength we cannot walk the faith walk. We cannot because our natural nature is to sin. Paul quotes, “There is none righteous, no, not one…There is none who does good, no, not one.” So in our own, we cannot live right. We are not better people. Here’s the good news: we don’t have to live righteously in our own strength. Paul said, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law that every mouth may become guilty before God.” We are not under the curse of the law, but under grace in Christ. We cannot live righteously on our own but with Christ, through the Holy Spirit we can be righteous. The law shows us where we are wrong but God’s grace guides us into right.

The Red Pill

John 14:1-6

I sometimes think of the Great Commission as similar to the Matrix movies. We are sent into a world we don’t belong in to deliver people from captivity. The bible said, “You are in this world, but not of this world.” We know the secret: this world is not all there is. We have experienced freedom when we accepted Christ and now we have an opportunity to show others freedom. We are here to offer a choice: Jesus or not. Jesus is the only way to heaven. He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” People can try other ways to get to God. We have to let them know there is only one way. We will receive arguments and people will get mad at us and call us fanatics, discriminating, intolerant, narrow minded bigots. But when it comes down it, we have to stand firm, knowing there is only one choice: the red pill or the blue pill.

Witnesses

READ: Acts 1:1-11
You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me . . . to the end of the earth. —Acts 1:8
In a criminal court case, witnesses provide vital information about a possible crime. Being a witness means telling the court the truth about what you know.
Just as the criminal justice system relies heavily on witnesses, Jesus uses bold, faithful, and credible witnesses to spread His Word and build His church.
Before Jesus ascended to His Father, He gave His disciples a final command—to launch a worldwide witnessing campaign. The Holy Spirit would come upon them and give them supernatural power to be His witnesses throughout the world (Acts 1:8).
Jesus called these early apostles to go into a world where people did not know about Him and to give a truthful account of what they had seen, heard, and experienced (Acts 4:19-20). Since they had witnessed His perfect life, teachings, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection (Luke 24:48; Acts 1–5), they were to go out and give a truthful testimony about Him.
In taking the gospel to the ends of the world, we are called to testify to the truth about Jesus and how He has changed our lives. “How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?” (Rom. 10:14). What are you doing to tell others? — Marvin Williams
Lord and Savior, Christ divine,Reign within this heart of mine;May my witness ever beAlways, only, Lord, for Thee. —Brandt
God has left us in the world to witness to the world.

The Hard Times

John 16:1-15, 33

Nobody said Christianity was easy. There are the good times when we’re on top of the world and God is answering all our prayers with a “yes” and our friends are respecting our faith, some are even having a go at serving God. These times are good. But here Jesus cautions us about another era in our Christian walk. These are not fun. People might reject us, ridicule us and we might find ourselves standing alone. It’s hard to be a Christian in those times so God gave us a helping hand. Jesus left us the Holy Spirit who is our helper. He is our guide and He declares God’s Word to us. In hard times, we will always have the Holy Spirit with us. And at the end of it all, remember, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Newcomers

Acts 9:17-30

Do you doubt the power of God? Most likely you answer “no” to that question. So what do you do if a murderer walks into your church? Do you cringe and watch your back? Not if you truly trust the power of God. Saul was a killer. He specifically killed Christians so you can see how the disciples might have had reason to be scared of him. But we know that God can work amazing miracles in the lives of people. With God, a person’s past does not matter. So when people come into your church, love them because God loves them. Will there be people in the church looking to hurt the church? Yes. But we give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Imagine if the disciples didn’t take Paul into their midst. Would he have written the letter he did or start all the church he started without the support of the church? Probably not. That, my friends, is why we show God’s love to anyone and everyone that walks into the church. It’s not easy, it’s love.

God's Vision

Isaiah 60:17-22

Ever wonder what eternity with Jesus will be like? After the rapture, after the tribulation, after Armageddon, after the judgement of satan, we will reign with Jesus in the new heaven and new earth forever. Isaiah gives us a glimpse. Money will not be an issue; violence and corruption will not be an issue. But what excites me the most is in verse 22 which says, “A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation.” God’s vision of what is good is that nobody is too small to make an impact. We see that so many times in the bible. Rahab helps the Israelites conquer Jericho, Josiah becomes king at age 8, and Timothy pastors a church at a young age. We don’t have to wait till eternity to experience God’s vision. Little people in the bible have made a difference and so can we.

Restoring Spiritual Sight

READ: John 9:1-11
The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. —Psalm 119:130
Sanduk Ruit is a Nepalese doctor who has used his scalpel, microscope, and simplified cataract surgery technique to give sight to almost 70,000 people over the past 23 years. The poorest patients who visit his nonprofit eye center in Katmandu pay with just their gratitude.
Our Lord Jesus Christ healed many of physical blindness during His time on earth. But of greater concern to Him were the spiritually blind. Many of the religious authorities who investigated the healing of the blind man refused to believe that Jesus was not a sinner (John 9:13-34). This caused Jesus to say, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind” (v.39).
The apostle Paul wrote of this spiritual blindness when he said, “If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (2 Cor. 4:3-4).
The psalmist said, “The entrance of Your words gives light” (Ps. 119:130). God’s Word is what will open our eyes and cure spiritual blindness. — C. P. Hia
Come to the Light, ’tis shining for thee!Sweetly the Light has dawned upon me;Once I was blind, but now I can see—The Light of the world is Jesus. —Bliss
A world in darkness needs the light of Jesus.

The Word is Good For That

Hebrews 4:11-16

The Word of God is living and powerful. It’s not a book of fairy tales like so many people, even some Christians, would like to believe. It’s a mirror into our souls. It is “sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joint and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The Word is so astute it can show us what ideas are from our heads and which ones are God-given. We talk about being led by the Holy Spirit in our daily lives but sometimes it can be hard to discern if we are being led or if we are leading ourselves. The Word is good for that.

Why Do We Suffer?

John 9:1-11

Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do bad things continue to happen even after we give our lives to Christ? Some people are going through situations and wonder why they are being made to suffer through thier circumstances. The blind man in today's scripture must have wondered that as well. We was born blind even before he had a chance to sin. Psalm 139:13 reads, "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb." He must have read this and wondered what was so fearfully and wonderfully made in his body? But he had a purpose. He was healed and through that, he was given a testimony. Why do we suffer through all that we suffer through? I don't know all the answers, but i know that, "Though the darkness may last for a night, God's joy comes in the morning."After the pain, we have a testimony

Godly Sorrow

READ: 2 Corinthians 7:5-10
I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner. —2 Corinthians 7:9
Thieves stole nearly $5,000 in sound and office equipment from a church in West Virginia, only to break in the following night to return the items they had taken. Apparently, the guilt of stealing from a church weighed so heavily on their conscience that they felt the need to correct their criminal behavior of breaking the commandment: “You shall not steal” (Ex. 20:15). Their actions make me think about the differences between worldly sorrow and godly sorrow.
Paul praised the Corinthians for understanding this difference. His first letter to them was biting, as he addressed issues of sin. His words caused sorrow among them, and because of this Paul rejoiced. Why? Their sorrow did not stop at just feeling sad about getting caught or suffering the unpleasant consequences of their sins. Their sorrow was godly sorrow, a genuine remorse for their sins. This led them to repentance—a change in their thinking that led to a renouncing of their sin and turning to God. Their repentance ultimately led to deliverance from their sinful habits.
Repentance is not something we can do unless we have the prompting of the Holy Spirit; it’s a gift from God. Pray for repentance today (2 Tim. 2:24-26). — Marvin Williams
O Wind of God, come bend us, break us,Till humbly we confess our need; Then in Thy tenderness remake us,Revive, restore—for this we plead. —Head
Repentance means hating sin enough to turn from it.

Under His Wings

Deuteronomy 32:7-12

When you think of an eagle, what do you see? The eagle is a proud and majestic animal. In Isaiah, we see imagery of the eagle soaring above everything. Here the eagle symbolizes protection. Here God compared to the eagle as a strong territorial protector. He will not leave us to ourselves. Anything that comes to attack us will be swiftly dealt with. But like an eagle, God works alone. He doesn’t share a workload with our jobs or our strength. This passage says, “So the Lord alone led [the people of Israel], and there was no foreign god with him.” God will protect us and He works alone. When we try to rely on other factors, we begin to lose God. It’s not because He leaves us, but because we leave Him. Look through the bible and see how God protected His people in the past and trust Him and Him alone to protect you.

When We Are United...

Acts 2:1-13

There is so much to be gained from this passage, but one thing really stands out: The multicultural nature of the gathering. People sometimes look at Christianity as a jewish religion or a white man’s religion, but the first church meeting was comprised of all nations. When God created us, He created us in His own image. That means we all resemble God in some way, yet we don’t all look alike. That leads me to believe God is not concerned with what we look like physically. When the Holy Spirit came upon them, He connected with their spirits and their differences were cast aside. In Matthew 28:20, Jesus said go into ALL the world meaning He wants all colours of people to worship Him. God’s body cannot be racist; God created all races. It was when diiferent cultures cast aside their differences that the Holy Spirit moved down upon the church. There is a blessing in unity.

Image Of An Evangelist

1 Peter 3:8-12

Quick quiz: Would you buy life insurance from someone who sued the insurance agency? Would you enter a cab where the driver wore full protective equipment? Probably not. To sell something, you have to portray yourself appropriately. Well, to evangelize, we sell our message to the world. To do that, we have to first make sure we represent ourselves suitably. Peter teaches, “Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.” Then when we show ourselves to the world, we can tell them about living for God. Titus 1:16 puts it like this, “They claim to know God, but they deny him by their actions. They are detestable, disobedient, and disqualified to do anything good.” Let’s not get disqualified.

The Compromising Church

Revelation 2:12-17

The seven letters to the churches in Revelation point out seven different statuses in our walk with God. Here we see the compromising believer. This believer/church serves God. It says here, “You hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was my faithful martyr.” This believer is not bad and most likely loves God but has taken certain doctrines contrary to the truth of the Word of God. Such doctrine in today’s time may include theistic evolution; the belief that Acts and the Old Testament are just stories; the Law is just for the Old Testament and many such beliefs. The Bible is ONE unified book and cannot be taken in part. When the Word says something, then it is true. So a true believer believe God for blessing AND abstains from sex till marriage. We pray for healing AND we submit ourselves to church leadership. False doctrine are often easier than the truth, but we cannot afford to compromise.

Strength to Face The Day

Isaiah 40:25-31

I watched the Olympics two years ago and one thing that impressed me was the stamina of the marathon racers. Here you have people who can run 1000, 3000 or 10,000 meters without stopping. They never seem to get tired. And yet the Bible tells us, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall.” If even these elite athletes get tired, what hope is there for us? Even when we don’t run, life wears us down. Between school, sports, work, friendships and relationship so much stress can come on us that we can’t possibly do anything for God, or can we? The bible tells us, “But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” God created us; He knows our limits. He also knows His limitless ability to strengthen us. Do you feel tired or weary? Call on God.

Power To Witness

Acts 1:1-11

The last words of Jesus were, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and to the end of the earth.” I’m sure by now all my readers know I love to talk about witnessing because it is such a core aspect of our faith. For believers, the meaning of life is more about serving others than serving ourselves. And look, Jesus told us that we will receive power to go out and witness. When the bible talks about rewards in heaven, those rewards are based on who we touched with the gospel. Jesus’ last words were about witnessing because it is important. And when we go on to heaven, it is to those who witnesses to whom He will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Hope in The Lord

Psalm 33:13-22

“Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.” God is looking out for us. It says in 2 Chronicles 16:9 that God is looking for an opportunity to show Himself strong on the behalf of his people. And because He is God we know we can rely on Him. Jesus said to cast our burdens upon Him for He cares for us. The question is, are we willing to rest in Him? Most of the time we try to count on ourselves. But today’s psalm tells us, “No king is saved by the multitude of his army; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength.” So our prayer today is not that we can deliver ourselves from adverse situations but our cry to God should be, “Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You.”

The Believer's Judgment

"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" (1 Peter 4:17)
There is a terrible day of judgment coming for those who reject Christ, but for those who do believe the gospel and trust the Lord Jesus for salvation, "there is therefore now no condemnation i.e., judgment" (Romans 8:1). Yet our text tells us that judgment actually begins with those who obey the gospel! This apparent contradiction vanishes when one realizes that it is merely for the purpose of preparing those who are already saved to serve Him in eternity.
When a believer sins, he should judge and confess that sin. "For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged" (1 Corinthians 11:31), and God will forgive (1 John 1:9). If he does not, however, the next phase of judgment is the chastening of God. "But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world" (1 Corinthians 11:32). The classic passage on the believer’s chastening (Hebrews 12:5-11) concludes with the assurance that its purpose is to yield "the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11).
But when such chastening fails to work, the next judgment may even be physical death. "There is sin unto death" (1 John 5:16). "To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus" (1 Corinthians 5:5).
Finally, all Christians must "appear before the judgment seat of Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:10), where "every one of us shall give account of himself to God" (Romans 14:12). There, some "shall suffer loss." Nevertheless, each person at this judgment "shall be saved" (1 Corinthians 3:14-15). But, as our text continues, "if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?" (1 Peter 4:18). HMM

Drifting Away

Job 1:13-22
Imagine relaxing on a rubber raft along the shore, eyes closed, soaking up the sun and listening to the gentle crash of waves. You don’t have a care in the world—until you open your eyes! Suddenly the shore is alarmingly distant.
We tend to drift like that spiritually. It’s subtle yet shocking when we suddenly realize how far we’ve drifted from God. The point of departure begins when Satan steals our affection for our loving Creator by putting a deceitful twist on our experiences and causing us to suspect God instead of trust Him.
Consider Job and his wife. Both had plenty of reasons to be mad at God. Their children were dead, their fortune lost, and Job’s health destroyed. His wife told him, “Curse God and die!” But Job replied, “Shall we indeed accept good from God, and . . . not accept adversity?” (Job 2:9-10).
There are many attitudes that can set us adrift: believing that we need more than God to be happy; placing meaningful relationships above loyalty to God; thinking God should live up to our expectations; resisting His reproofs; turning a deaf ear when His Word is uncomfortable.
If you’re beginning to drift, remember to stay close to the One who is the sole source of satisfaction. — Joe Stowell
Lord, help me to stay close to YouAnd trust You more each day,So when the storms of life appearI will not drift away. —Sper
To avoid drifting away from God, stay anchored to the Rock.

God In Us

Hebrews 8:7-13

We are under a different covenant; one that was instituted through Jesus Christ. The most obvious facet of this new covenant is that we don’t have to kill animals to cover our sins because Jesus did it all. But there is another important aspect. We have another advantage that the people in the Old Testament did not have. God promised to put His laws directly in our hearts. We have the ability to know God through His Spirit that dwells inside us. We can walk according to His plan for our lives everyday. We don’t need prophets to tell us “thus says the Lord” anymore. There will be times when we get prophesied over, but now we have God Himself in us. Let us take advantage of that.

After Our Last Breath

2 Corinthians 5:1-11

Every religion deals with the afterlife in some way and there are so many theories as to what goes on beyond the grave. There is so much uncertainty in the world as to what happens when we die because there are not many cases of people who came back to talk about it. This uncertainty makes people afraid to die. But we know where we are going after this earthly phase. Paul said, “We are confident, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” Some people believe they must live life to the max because there’s nothing afterwards, but we know that all will be accountable for their actions on earth when we die. What kind of an account do you want to give?

Motive For Christianity

Acts 20:17-24,32

Why are you a Christian? Ever stopped to question your motives behind serving God? Some people, they want the blessings, other are just doing it as a family thing, other are just scared of death. Now I don’t know if Jesus judges us based on our motive for serving Him, but I know that our motives are important here on earth. If you serve God because you love God and want to be a tool in His kingdom, then when trials come, like they did for Paul, you will still have the confidence to go on and to recommend the faith to others. If we just want the blessings, then we leave when the blessings look like they’ve disappeared. The only way we can serve God for better and for worse is if we serve Him out of love. Fear, greed or convenience will not keep us in Him through the storms.

Jesus Cares

John 17:6-26

Jesus was about to be arrested and enter into the worst experience in His life. He knew that. The Old Testament prophesied that He would be beaten till He was not recognizable and He would run out of blood so He would bleed water. But before He went through all that He prayed… for us. He prayed for our salvation and protection and eternal life. He took the time for pray for us before He went through a lot of pain. That’s love. Does Jesus care about us? Yes He does. So it doesn’t matter what you’re going through, you can pray because Jesus cares

Getting Saved

Romans 10:8-15

It’s not hard to get saved. All a person has to do is to believe in Jesus and confess it. But how can people believe in what they don’t know? And how will they learn unless someone shows them? Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved and there will be great rejoicing in heaven. But for that to happen, we have to do our part. We don’t have to go into all the world, we can spread the Good News within OUR world. Jesus needs us. Some people do get saved by divine intervention but for most people, we are going to have to go out and preach to people and pray for people. And when they are ready to accept, we can show them this passage.

What Are You Saying?

Proverbs 10:18-21

What are your lips producing? The bible says that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Our tongues have the ability to set our destiny on fire. As believers we are righteous and it should be shown in our words as well as our actions. “The lips of the righteous feed many.” We should always bless people with what we say. Sometimes, though, we say the wrong thing without meaning to: it just comes out sometimes. Here’s a tip to help. Ever notice how people who talk a lot say the wrong thing more often than quiet people? King Solomon noticed that and he said, “In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” We don’t always have to speak. Sometimes it’s better to hold our lips.

The Just Shall Live By Faith

Habakkuk 2:2-4

Here we have a vision. This vision is important enough to be written down, and promised to be fulfilled at an appointed time. This vision will surely come to pass at the right time. So what is this vision? “But the just shall live by his faith.” There will come a time where everyone will have to make a decision on who to trust. Will we trust God or ourselves? Joshua had to make that decision at Jericho. Saul made his choice in 1 Samuel 13. We learn about God in church and we are beginning to build a relationship with God but are we willing to leave our lives in God’s hand? My prayer for everyone and for myself is that when the time comes to decide, we will put our trust in God. We will live by faith.

Through His Works...

Matthew 11:1-6

John sent disciples to ask Jesus if He truly was the messiah. How did Jesus respond? He didn’t give a deep preaching about Himself and the prophesies; He didn’t tell the story of His mama and the angel. He presented His works. The bible says, “By their fruits, you will know them.” How does anyone know we are Christian? Do we just talk a good game or do we live out our faith? A wise man once said, “A Christian is like a sponge: you see what’s inside them when they get squeezed.” We can talk all we want- Ananias and Saphira tried- but a true believer is seen through his/her works and fruit

Contract Terms

Hebrews 10:19-25

This passage reads like a contract. Since Jesus Christ gave us the authority to enter the Holiest through His blood, then we…. Jesus fulfilled His terms of the contract before we even signed it. And now that we have claimed Him as our lord and saviour we have terms to fulfill as well: draw near to God, have faith in God, and encourage one another. The third is very important because the Christian walk is not something that can be done alone. We need to encourage each other to righteousness because there is a devil on the other shoulder urging every believer to sin. Man wasn’t created to be an island; we were meant to help each other. If you don’t have godly friends, look for some. If you do, get closer to them. United we stand, divided we fall.

Witnessing The Good News

2 Corinthians 4:1-7

“For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves bondservants for Jesus’ sake.” Evangelism is not a difficult concept to grasp. We go out and share the good news to people who don’t understand. Evangelism is not about giving a thorough doctrine of Christian beliefs but simply this: Jesus Christ. We can debate with unbelievers all we want but the truth of the Word is hidden from those who don’t believe by the devil; they have been blinded to it. So no matter how smart we think we are, we can never convert anyone. But God can. We go out to share the good news which is simply this: Jesus is God, He came as a man to die for our sins and by accepting Him we can experience God’s love and mercy in this life and in the next. It is God who commanded the light to shine and it shines “in the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

In Prayer

Psalm 119:121-128

1 John 3:22 says, “And whatsoever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” David prayed and he reminded God of his righteousness and justice before making requests. He says, “I have done justice and righteousness; do not leave me to my oppressors.” It’s not so much to change God’s mind but to arm us against doubts the devil tries to bring. When we know we have been righteous, we are confident we remain saved and every thing that is promised to children of God belongs to us. Bringing your lifestyle before God in prayer is not about bragging, but about helping you stand in faith. And as we stand in faith, we wil receive from God. Amen

Rocks For His Kingdom

Matthew 21:1-11

Multitudes cheered Jesus entering Jerusalem, hailing Him as the Son of David and honouring Him by laying their clothes on the road. This was a crowd that adored Jesus and probably accepted Him as messiah judging by how they chose to honour Him. Yet a few days later He got crucified at the request of this large crowd. Jesus didn’t change in that time period so the people did. How quickly opinions change. As believers we should be like the disciples and stick to Jesus. We are the rock that His kingdom is built on. Some catalysts will try to sway our beliefs but we know the truth and it has set us free.

The Earth

Genesis 2:1-15

As Christians, are we expected to care for the earth? Many people say the earth is folding up like a filthy rag and when Jesus comes back we will have a new heaven and a new earth. So we should let this one die. It’s true that this earth is decaying but here in Genesis we see something cool. Even before we were saved and were commanded to fulfill the Great Commission, man was commanded to care for the earth. We were originally put on earth as creatures made in God’s image to care for His earth. So yes... it’s perishing and we know it will die but that doesn’t change this command.

Committing Our Plans

Proverbs 16:1-9

What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to do after high school? What are your plans for this weekend? We all have plans and that’s good, but have we committed them to God? “The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.” Before we decide where we want to live in the future or when we want to start having kids, we pray. We submit our plans to God so that He can edit them for our good. After all, who knows the future like God does. And He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us. Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.

First Priority

Matthew 6:25-34

What is it we teenagers worry about? For most of us, I’m guessing it’s not jobs, the economy or bills. I highly doubt that many of us worry about where food will come from or how we will get new clothes. So what do we worry about? Personally, I worry about my grades, making athletic teams and being ready for university. Others worry about dating, sports injuries, having classes with the hard teachers, and many other issues we face everyday. God’s Word says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When we make God our first priority, everything else will fall into place. God works out everything for the good of those who love Him.

From The Inside Out

Matthew 5:21-26

It’s all about the heart. Man sees the outward, but Christ sees the heart. So as such, we are to maintain our purity from the heart outwards. It’s not only when we physically hurt someone that we sin, but also when we think about it. And as humans, it is impossible for us to keep our thoughts pure. Jesus knew that when he taught this. He also knew that He would send to us a helper who could help us to remain pure from the inside out

Spiritual Self-Condemnation

Spiritual Self-Condemnation
by Henry Morris III, D.Min. Mar. 31, 2009

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets." (Matthew 23:29-30)
This final "woe" in Matthew 23 is the most awful of all eight of them. Although this builds from verse 25, the conclusion demonstrates the result of such duplicitous behavior--ultimate and eternal separation from the Creator God and His holiness. "Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" (Matthew 23:31-33).

Here is the principle: "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned" (Matthew 12:37). This is no small issue. Our speech is a direct reflection of what is important to us. So much so that we will be held accountable for "every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment" (Matthew 12:36).

Those passages ought to give all of us pause. Just what is it that consumes our conversation throughout the day? Is it sports, movies, shopping, gossip, slander, or sowing "discord among brethren" (Proverbs 6:19)? Or is it "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report" (Philippians 4:8).

Our mouths are connected to our hearts (Matthew 15:18). What we talk about most of the time is a definite indicator of where our hearts are. Perhaps we should listen to ourselves. That is a pretty good marker of what we love most: "Stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh" (James 5:8).

What Are We Building With Our Lives

1 Corinthians 3:9-17

What are we building with our lives? Everyone’s life is like a building. Our core beliefs make up the foundation and our actions make up the structure. As Christians our foundation is the cross. We stand on the solid rock that is Christ. We are grounded in the truth of Jesus’ death and resurrection and we called on the name of the Lord and now we are saved. Now what? Is our structure made up of popularity and pleasure? Is it made of athletic and academic ability? Or do we build our lives on serving God and living for Him? Popularity and athletic skill can disappear quickly but serving God is a lifestyle that can stand all the challenges of life. Paul said, “If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.” What are we building with our lives?

Friends And Friendliness

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

“For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.” Friends are more than just fun people to hang out with. They strengthen our beliefs and hold us up through hard times. There is a lot to be said for having a good friend. A good friend is more than someone you talk to. They should be able to support you when you need it. And as a friend, you have to be willing to help your friends out when they need it. He who wants a friend must first show himself friendly. Not all our friends will be Christians, but it’s good to have believes close to you to strengthen your faith.

Be Strong And Of Good Courage

Joshua 1:1-9

When the bible repeats something, it’s important. “Be strong and of good courage” is stated three times. In a passage talking about the inheritance of the people of Israel, the Lord repeats, “Be strong and of good courage.” That means that even though we have a destiny set designated for us, walking into it will not be easy; we have to remain strong and unafraid. That means that it’s not always going to be a piece of God when we follow God’s Will. But as sure as there are trials, there will also be blessings. God even tells us how to remain strong when He says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Beyond A Reasonable Doubt

Matthew 28:1-8, 16-20

One thing that frustrates me is when I talk to my friends about God and they still refuse to believe. I am an intellectual type and so I lay down the doctrines of faith so logically and eloquently and manage to answer most of their questions. I’m usually so convinced that no intelligent person can refute the validity of Christ and yet they do. People have an amazing ability to doubt. Even some of the people who saw Jesus after His resurrection doubted (Matthew 28:16). The thing is the bible doesn’t tell us Jesus spent hours trying to convince them and we shouldn’t either. Our job is to present the gospel at every opportunity we get and let God do the convincing.

Boast On The Cross

Galatians 6:11-15

The cross. If anything, it is the foundation of our belief. Without the cross we have no salvation, no hope. ‘God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” So often we try to do things on our own and say a quick prayer just in case. Christianity is not about what we do to get to heaven. Back in the day, people were concerned about circumcision and the likes. Now people are concerned about reading only the KJV and other little things. We boast only in the cross because that’s were our salvation comes from

The Value of The Word

Psalm 19:7-14

This psalm is from the heart of someone who values God’s Word. It is described as perfect, pure, right, clean, true, more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey. Does this psalm reflect your heart? The Word of God is an active force in our lives constantly seeking to change us and edify us. It saves, gives wisdom, brings joy and enlightens. It’s more than just a book, it’s God’s Will for us. John 1:1-4 tells us that the Word is God. So when God wants to work in us, it is a fair assumption that He will use His Word. There is value to this Word that cannot be measured.

The Weakness of The Law

Romans 8:1-11

We all know what sin is. Almost everyone knows right from wrong, but that knowledge rarely stops anyone from doing wrong. We have knowledge of sin because of the law, but as Paul explains, the law was weak in that it only shows us our faults, but does not help us to overcome sin. Jesus did that. And through the Spirit, we can be free from sin. “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He conquered sin in the flesh, that the requirement of law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Why We Forgive

Genesis 45:1-15

Joseph had too many reasons to be angry with his brothers. Because of them he was a slave, accused and thrown in jail and missed his mother’s death. Even though he became powerful in Egypt, he had to give up so much because of his brother. Yet Joseph forgave them. No matter what others do to you, the bible commands us to forgive. After all, what they did to you might put you in place to fulfill your destiny, just like Joseph. Unforgiveness holds you in bondage to that person where all your energy is directed at making them miserable. It puts you in a mindset that you’re not happy until the other person is unhappy. Unforgiveness hurts you more than the other person; Forgiveness frees you. Joseph forgave, Jesus forgave, let us forgive.

Not Just For Israel

Hosea 1:10-2:1

God has so many promises for us. He promised the people of Israel through Hosea to multiply them, to be their God and to show mercy. And the promises are not just for Israelites. Paul teaches that it does not matter whether Jew or gentile, slave or free we are all called by the same God to the same promises. God promises never to leave us, to give us life more abundantly, to equip us for every good work, to supply all our needs and the list goes on. The bible is a love letter to you and me and once we begin to hold on to the promises in the Word, there will be no doubt through our testimony that we serve a good God. Amen

Who Are You Counting On?

Judges 7:1-8

Why were only three hundred men kept and others sent home? What is it that made the 9700 men unsuitable for service in Gideon’s army? The answer is readiness. The men who knelt down let down their guard and were susceptible to an ambush. From thirty-two thousand men from the beginning of the chapter to three hundred- God weeded out all those unready for service. Who are you counting on? If Gideon was relying on his army, he would have been unpleasantly surprised. Twenty-two thousand were afraid and only three hundred could be counted on to remain ready. We have friends and family and a lot of people we feel we can always count on. Boyfriends and girlfriends promise to always be there and friends claim to have your back, but who can you always count on? Friends try but humans can fail- God cannot.

Out of The Heart

Mark 7:9-23

What really matters is what’s on the inside; serving God comes from the heart. That’s because in anything we do, our motive comes from our heart. Our heart actually directs our minds. Desire starts in the heart and the mind makes a way. That’s why Jesus said that out of the heart is what defiles a man. That’s true when evil is in our hearts. When we have good in our heart, it edifies us. That’s why we need to read our bibles and pray. These build good in our heart so that our actions can be pure.

What Is Impossible With God

Jeremiah 1:4-10

What is impossible with God? Nothing. God was able to take a young man, whose words would ordinarily carry no significance in his society, and make him into a prophet. Just like Jeremiah, I believe God is saying to everyone of us “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.” Not everyone is going to be a prophet (Ephesians 4:11) but in God’s hands we can be anything. We are God’s Masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10). Just as God anointed Jeremiah’s mouth He is well able to equip us for our destiny. We know we can trust Him because time and time again He proves that nothing is truly impossible with God.

Put On...

Colossians 3:12-17

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put n tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering….But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” What does it mean to put on these traits? When we put on clothes, they are visible on us. We don’t have to tell anyone who sees us what we’re wearing: they can see it. Likewise people should be able to see these characteristics in us. A common joke says, “If you have to tell someone you’re funny, chances are you’re not.” The same applies to kindness, humility, etc. These traits will be seen on us when the Word of God dwells richly in us and the peace of God rules in our hearts.

Complete In The Word

2 Timothy 3:10-17

Just like Timothy, I have a few mentors in my life; I have people, men of God that I look up to. I have seen them in the good times and in the tough times and I have seen what they turn to for strength: The Word and Prayer. And because I see the success they have using God’s Word, My faith in the Word is grounded. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” The Word trains and prepares us for anything that life throws at us. Just as Paul urged Timothy, we must continue in the Word of God that we have learned and continue to learn. Amen

Wise Guy Versus Wise God

James 3:13-18

What does God’s wisdom look like? Well… it is described as “wisdom from above” and “is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy” (Vs. 16). Sound familiar? Probably not. The wisdom we are used to as inhibiters of earth is bitter, envious and self-seeking. The edict of the day is, “Look out for number one.” God’s wisdom however is shown by works done in the meekness of wisdom (Vs. 13). Meekness is knowing that you have the ability to inflict pain but deciding not to. It’s completely different from looking out for number one and it doesn’t always make sense. But as people who claim that we are in this world but not of this world, it’s how we roll.

Relation With Our Father

Luke 15:11-24

We all know the story of the prodigal son. He tried to run away from his father’s authority and ended up miserable. We can look at this parable and tell ourselves that if we had the opportunity we would be smarter than this prodigal son and take good care of our finances but the truth is there is no joy outside the Father. I can say this confidently because I have tried doing life my own way and it doesn’t work too well. And for many teenagers it’s hard to stick with God because we’ve never really had times when we had to trust Him and so He doesn’t seem real to us. But when we go out into the real world there is a being out there looking to steal, to kill and to destroy. Will we remain with our Father in Heaven or will we have to come crawling back to Him?

Learning To Be Content

Philippians 4:10-19

We are all at different levels in life: No two people are the same. This is also true of our faith walks. Some people can worship easily and some can preach the Word beautifully and some can give easily. We cannot compare ourselves to others. Paul states, “For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” Though he speaks specifically of material wealth, it is a concept that can be applied to all of life. Content doesn’t mean we have to stay in that state, but we have to learn to wait for God to grow us. Most of us will not lead a thousand people to God on our first day, but we can thank God for the one person in whom we plant seeds. We cannot compare our walk with others’.

Can The True Believer Stand?

Psalm 27:1-14

We all have a testimony. Every one of us got converted to Christ somehow. And we know of the promises of God. How do we react when trials come? Do we believe in God to save us? David said, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Do we believe? God is not just waiting for us to die to bless us. Do we believe? If so then when trials come we must learn to say, as David did, “Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” Can the true believers rise up?

Walking In The Spirit

Galatians 5:16-22

Most of us know this scripture. Verses 22 and 23 are the first I remember memorizing: my mom taught it t me as a song I still remember today. Notice the contrast between the works (plural) of the flesh and the Fruit (singular) of the Spirit. The Spirit gives all these fruit in a complete package called salvation. And we cannot manifest the Fruit of the Spirit and the works of the flesh together because they are opposites. How can we love and envy at the same time, or have outbursts of wrath and self-control? The message we have to take away is, “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. As it says in Matthew 6:24, no one can serve two masters.

Annointed To...

Isaiah 6:1-11

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to…” Look at the things we have to offer the world. We have in us the ability to remove oppression, to comfort, to exchange their pain for joy. Through God’s Spirit we have the ability to build up people so that they can be strong. We can enable people to rebuild old ruins and raise up former desolations. The Lord will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before the nations. That is one of the signs of the end-times (Acts 2:17-21).

Spirit of Power, Love and A Sound Mind

2 Timothy 1:6-12

“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord.” One reason we teens don’t like to share the Good News is that it’s not cool. The popular opinion is that the Bible is a book of rules and stories. And if we were to tell people abut loving God and serving God we look weird. But God saved us and called us with a holy calling according to His own purpose. We have to share the Good News. We have the Holy Spirit working in us to guide us and empower us. “God has not given us the Spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

After the Sin

Isaiah 59:1-7, 16-20

God is never unable to save us. But when our lives are full of sin, He will not come near us. Even Jesus on the cross felt God’s absence after He took on the sin of the world. God is Holy and cannot be around sin. When we sin we leave His protection and we have no peace. But there is good news. “Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; and His own righteousness, it sustained Him.” God has made as way out of sin. He is the redeemer of those who turn back to Him. When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)

Flee Unrighteousness

1 Timothy 6:11-16

“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” The word “flee” means to run away from something. What are we supposed to flee from? Well…if we are chasing righteousness, it’s only fair to say that whatever we are to flee from is the opposite of righteousness, or unrighteousness. Verses 9 and 10 talks about lust for wealth that leads people away from God. Lust for life leads people is unrighteousness. And to resist, lusting after material things, there is a fight. Paul however warns all of us to “keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing.”

Jesus Intercedes

Hebrews 9:23-28

We think of Jesus and immediately His death and resurrection come to mind. But there is more to what Jesus does for us. He intercedes for us before God every moment. Mark 16:19 tells us He is seated at the right hand f God. Hebrews 9:24 says, “He entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.” God is holy and cannot be around sin. Every time we mess up, Jesus is up there reminding God that we are sanctified by his sacrifice. I don’t know what He is saying but I gotta figure its working because we still experience God’s presence here on earth.

Serve God Only

1 Corinthians 6:12-20

The Corinthian society had started to acquire a mindset that because they were saved they could do anything. That is still being taught in some churches today. “All things are lawful, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” Paul gives us the perfect reason we should avoid sin. Sin is submitting to temptation. We should resist sin because we cannot submit to two masters. We are bought by God through Jesus’ blood and so we are to serve Him. Yes, we have forgiveness but if we want to grow in God, we have to serve Him.

The Full Mystery

Ephesians 3:9-13

Abraham followed God. Moses parted the Red Sea. Joshua destroyed the walls of Jericho. And all this they did when the power of God was limited to people of Israel. But now because of Christ’s sacrifice everyone “boldness and access with confidence in Him.” That has to make us jump for joy. We have unlimited access to the Creator of the world. We can stand before His presence to glorify His Name. In the Old Testament all this was limited to God’s Chosen people but now the full mystery of God’s plan has been revealed to the Gentiles. We can stand before principalities and powers to declare God’s wisdom.

Reward of The Law

Proverbs 3:1-10

“My son, do not forget my law. But let your heart keep my commands. For length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.” Serving the Lord is not without its reward. God asks a lot from us but He is also well able to return the favour. And when we feel we can’t live up to all God wants, Verses 5 and 6 tell us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” When we commit all we do to Him, we can do all things because He enables us to and the natural consequences of doing God’s law are long life and peace. When we fear the Lord, we are strong and healthy. When we honour God with our possessions we will prosper.

God Is Listening

Psalm 34:11-22

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” We are never alone; God is always there with us. What makes a person righteous? A righteous person is one who fears the Lord. So if we fear the Lord then God is actually listening for our prayers. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” It’s not always easy. Even in high school we have trials and it may feel like there’s no way out but God promises that He is listening for a chance to deliver us.

The Price of Dishonor

2 Kings 2:19-25

Respect! It’s something that we as youth want a lot. Respect however is something that is given, and in doing so we earn it. There is a price for disrespect, especially towards men of God. When God anoints a man or woman of God, He makes a covenant like with Abraham that says, “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you.” We may not get mauled by bears but there is always a consequence to disrespecting men of God. Honor those appointed by Go to serve a role.

Carrying gods

Isaiah 46:1-13

You know people still worship idols today. For some people it’s Hollywood. Some people worship money and would do anything to satisfy their lust for money. Some people worship drugs. The truth is idols cannot satisfy our needs. Isaiah 46 verses 4 and 7 provide a contrast. Man has to carry his idols. They don’t do anything for us but we spend our time on them. God however promises to carry us till our old age as long as we lean on Him and Him alone. God alone is God and there is none like Him

Abraham's Obedience

Hebrews 11:8-16

We don’t have to know everything when we are called to do stuff. Abraham did not know why he was called to a new land. He did not know how it was possible to have a son when he was so old. He did not know why he was asked to sacrifice his son. But he obeyed. All he knew was that following God brings blessings and that was enough for him and he was rewarded for his faith. We are allowed to have questions, but faith means obeying even before the answers. All we need to know is that we have a reward in heaven.

Evidence For God

Deuteronomy 4:32-40

How do you know God is real? What evidence do you use to convince yourself? For the longest time I tried to use science to prove to myself God’s existence. I spent hours on Christian Science websites so I could prove Him. Science is not how we can know God is real. We prove His existence through our relationship with Him. After reminding the people of Israel what God did for them Moses said, “Therefore know this day and consider it in your heart that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.” How do we know God is real? Because we’ve experienced Him time and again.

Free to Pray

Psalm 17:1-5

“You have tested my heart; you have visited me in the night; you have tried me and found nothing.” When we live righteously, our prayers are easier. Faith comes easier. You see, the devil is called the accuser f the brethren. He tries to keep us from praying and pouring our hearts to God by bombarding us with our past sins. Guilt can overwhelm us and make us feel unworthy to pray. And we can spend time trying to overcome the guilt or we can live righteously. When we live right, we empty the devil’s ammunition. Prayer can be hard when we are heavy laden with sin, but it doesn’t have to be. David could pour out his hear to God because he was right with God. We can be right with God as well.

United We Stand

Ephesians4:1-6

Unity. When we talk about love and faith and purity and witnessing, unity sometimes gets lost in the huddle. But unity is something we cannot survive without as Christians. Hebrews 10:25 says we cannot be, “forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” We have been called by one God to one faith. We may not agree about everything but we can walk together. Romans says that in as much as it is dependent on us, we should live at peace with all men. Divided we fall, united we stand. No soldier goes to war alone. We need our brothers and sisters in Christ.

The Faithfulness of God

Psalm 89:1-8

“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; with my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness.” When we think of how faithful God has been, how can we not proclaim it loud and unashamed? He sustains us daily, provides everything we need, enables us to enjoy the bounties of life. And even if that is not your lot in life, you have a hope in Christ for a better life because the Lord looks to prove Himself strong on behalf of those who fear Him. And God’s faithfulness becomes even more pronounced as His presence comes in worship. Even when we are not faithful, He is always there to bring us back.

Jesus Lives

Luke 24:1-12

Everything we believe is based on one fact: Jesus is alive. If He isn’t then our faith is dead. Our Spirit man is made alive in Christ. Paul said that if Jesus was not raised up then we of all people are to be pitied. But Jesus is alive. He lived His life as an example for us, He died as the sacrifice for our sins and he rose again to give us victory over every circumstance we will face. A song says, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.” Jesus is alive and because He lives we can face every situation and overcome. We have the same Spirit working in us that raised Jesus from the dead.

Giving Thanks

Luke 17:11-19

There were ten lepers who got healed of leprosy. One came back to thank Jesus and he was made whole. What was he doing when he gave thanks? He gave glory to God. He was acknowledging the source of his healing. God does things so His name will be glorified. And when we give glory to Him, He continues to do great things in our lives. He said in exodus that He is a jealous God and will share His glory with no man. He deserves all the glory for all He does in our lives. The tenth leper gave God glory and was made whole. In everything we should give thanks to the Lord. Philippians 4:6 tells us that even when we bring a request to God, we are still to thank Him. God is the source of every good thing in our lives; let us acknowledge Him.

Settled

Psalm 119:89-96

Settle: to resolve definitely and conclusively, to pay a bill; make a financial arrangement. The Bible is settled in heaven. There is no debt on it, no conditions that have to be met before we can draw on its promises. When a person’s estate is settled, it means al parties have been satisfied and there is no dispute. His faithfulness extends to us. His laws still keep us in times of trouble. Psalm 119 is a psalm that talks about the goodness of God’s Law, which is the bible, and so we have to assume that there is a lot of good because it’s a long psalm. And guess what? It’s all ours if we are willing to call on Him.

Written in Red

1 John 4:7-19

My first Bible was printed mostly in black type, but some of its words were in red. It didn’t take me long to discover that the ones in red had been spoken by Jesus.
More than 100 years ago, a man named Louis Klopsch published the first “red-letter” Bible. As he thought about Jesus’ words in Luke 22:20, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you,” he purposely used blood-red ink to call specific attention to His words.
The words of the Bible are priceless to us because they tell of the “love letter” God sent 2,000 years ago in the Person of His Son (1 John 4:10).
Jesus’ purpose in coming to earth as a Man was to die, to be sacrificed, to give His life for ours. God’s plan was written in red—written with “the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:19).
Those of us who have accepted God’s gift of love are called to be “letters” to those who don’t know Him. We are epistles of Christ “written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God” (2 Cor. 3:3).
Long before a day in February was set aside to celebrate love, the world received a love letter—and that changed everything (John 3:16). — Cindy Hess Kasper

Th Pure Standard

1 John 3:1-3

God so loved the word that He gave His only son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God (1 John 3:1). God had given us an amazing gift. He restored our spirit-Spirit communication with Him through Christ. We have become children of God and as children of God, we take on His characteristics. Purity is not something that happens moment by moment. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a lifestyle that Jesus lived on earth. He was exposed to cheaters and liars and sexually loose women and maintained a standard. And thanks to the Holy Spirit we can maintain that standard. That’s why today’s passage tells us to purify ourselves just as God is pure. Purity is one of many ways that our light shines before men and they can glorify God. (Matthew 5:16).

Whose Advice...?

2 Samuel 10:1-14

We’ve got to be careful who we allow to advise us. People don’t know everything. They can try to give the best advice using what they know and they can be wrong just like the Princes of Ammon. They advised the King of Ammon to make war against David and were soundly defeated. Advice is good. Sometimes another person’s perspective in a situation is exactly what we need. But we have to know what advice to take and what to discard. Luckily we have the best standard of measurement: God’s Word. It may not tell us exactly what to do in specific situations like getting stabbed in the back by a friend, but it does tell us to love those who spitefully use us. Any advice that goes against the principles of God’s Word is not good advice.

Dealing With Enemies

Matthew 5:38-48

Ever wonder why God doesn’t have a visible mark on the heads of people who would hurt us so we know who they are? It would make life a whole easier if we could know who we could trust, wouldn’t it? Well our job on earth is not to judge people and try to protect ourselves. We are to love everyone. Anyone can love a good person but it takes the special grace of God to love those who are not so nice. God’s Word says, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you.” We are not different from the world when we retaliate when we get hurt. But if someone hurts us and we continue to do good to them, we are a testimony to God’s work in us.

The Key to Greatness

Mark 1:16-20

What does it take to be great? Very few people stumble upon greatness, maybe through an act of heroism. Even then, their moment of fame is shortlived and life quickly becomes mundane again. However you look at people like President Obama, Bill Gates, Walt Disney, etc. They became great and continue to be great. If you ask them how they became great, they will tell you that there was a moment they had to step outside what was comfortable and do something. They had to take a risk to achieve anything. The disciples in today’s text were called to follow Jesus and they stepped out of their boats to follow Him. Two thousand years later we still remember them as founders of the church. Greatness starts when you step out and act on an idea or dream.

The Word in our Hearts

Proverbs 4:20-27

The Word of God is precious. It’s like a diamond ring to those who understand it. Its words are “life to those who find them and health to all their flesh.” We cannot afford to lose God’s Word. It contains everything we need to get through life. When we truly understand this, we will keep the word in the midst of our heart and not let our eyes depart from it. When the Word takes its proper place in our hearts, we will guard it with all we have.

The Mind of Christ

Philippians 2:1-8

“Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Humility is a characteristic of Jesus. In everything He did He considered the needs of others above Himself. Therefore, if we are imitators of Christ and we claim the Spirit of God is working in us then we must be humble. “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” Humility is looking out for others before ourselves. We don’t esteem ourselves above everyone, but we serve anyone.

Stewardship of Gifts

1 Peter 4:7-11

Go has given everyone a gift. Some people can deliver the Word eloquently and systematically. Some people can take care of kids; some can work magic with computers. Gifts come in all forms. It could be the ability to smile at people at the right time or talk to strangers. Unfortunately, sometimes we wait for the “big gifts” to manifest and we miss our real gifts. “As each one has received a gift, minister to one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” Whatever our gifts, God wants to us them to His glory. We are stewards of our gifts. That means we will have to give account of how we used them.

Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21-35

What does it mean to be a Christian? The word means to be an imitator of Christ. This theme is resonated throughout the New Testament. Jesus commanded us to love others as He loved us. Matthew 6:12 says, “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” God has delivered us from a variety of sins, some of which would kill us to have to testify. Nobody is perfect. But now that we have been forgiven, let’s get forgiving. We have received grace and as true imitator of Christ, we must grant grace. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you are wrong. It’s just understanding that God gave us this gift and He expects us to forgive as well.

Standard of Purity

1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

What is purity? Purity means to be free of blemishes. It’s not a flash occurrence but a process. A good example of this is gold. When it is found, it was a high percentage of impurities. It is put in a fire and these begin to fall of. The element is what remains to be crafted into something beautiful. We go through the same processes. God allows us to go through temptation so that when we overcome, we are continually purified. Purity does not only apply to sex, but in all areas of your body: drugs, junk food, even exercise. We need to maintain a standard of purity so we can possess our vessels in sanctification and honour, not in passion of lust. (Vs. 4-5)

The Fools

Psalm 14:1-7

The fool says in His heart, “There is no God.” Consequently there is no higher morality and he can do whatever he wants. If there’s no absolute good, then there’s no absolute evil; evil is what he feels. The Bible calls such a person a fool: one who has no wisdom. Why are we scared to talk to them? We know there is a God. We experience His presence in worship, prayer, fasting, bible meditation, etc. God is good; He is real. We should not be afraid to tell people about our God. “Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.” Let the people of God say so. There is a God and there is a devil. There is a heaven and there is a hell. If we truly believe that, none of our friends should be in the dark.

The Feeling of Forgiveness

Psalm 32:1-7

Sin enslaves us. It’s a chain that binds us and it constantly torments our conscience and mocks our righteousness. It weighs us down and we continue to get more and more tired. But, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). David knew what it meant to be forgiven and he said, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” God forgives because He loves us. He’s not a cosmic punisher waiting to beat us every time we fall; He’s a loving Father waiting for us to come back. There’s no reason to ever hold on to sin. Confess it to God and He will care for you.

Ambassadors For Christ

2 Corinthians 5:12-21

Imagine you were applying for a post-secondary scholarship and fund an organization willing to give money to anyone that applied, would you tell your friends? Everyone is guilty of sin but Jesus came, not to count it against us but too reconcile us to Himself. Shouldn’t we tell our friends? We hear a lot about living right, stepping into personal ministry, love, faith, etc. All these are vital to the Christian and are directed towards one goal: winning people to Christ. We are ambassadors for Christ. His job is not to appear to people and magically save them. He already did His part, now it’s our turn. We don’t have to go to Africa or Asia or South America to share the Good News. They have dozens of people we see everyday that need to know the gospel.

Helping Out

Exodus 18:13-24

As Jethro- Moses’ father-in-law- pointed out, when a leader has to do everything alone he/she will get worn down quickly. Every leader needs people to step up and help make sure that things run well. We are not too young to be those people. The requirements for the job are the ability to do a task, the fear of God, love truth and hate greed. We don’t have to preach or take command of a group of people though those are viable possibilities. Every piece of trash picked up, every chair straighten out is one less that our leaders have to worry about. And when we help out, we plant a seed so that when we begin to walk in our ministries, there will be people ready to help us out.

Leaving A Legacy

Matthew 11: 7-19

What do people say about us when we’re gone? This passage was Jesus’ eulogy of John the Baptist. John lived a life devoted to living out his calling. From what we know from the bible, John only did what God called him to be. He deserted the comfortable lifestyle and expensive clothing to be a voice in the desert crying, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord.” What is our legacy? When people think about us, do they say we are wise? Maybe we always do what was right. Or do they say we care only for ourselves? We don’t have to be dead to leave a legacy. In everything we do, we leave a memory behind. What legacy are you leaving?

Using The Right Tools

Ephesians 6:10-18

According to myth, the only way to kill a vampire is with holy water, garlic or a wooden stake. You can try to fight one with anything else but all your efforts will be futile. Well, how do we face principalities and powers and rulers of this age and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places? Well you can try taking a gun to satan, but just like the myth of vampires, only specific weapons will have any effect. The whole armour of God is how we will succeed against the devil. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:4 that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God. As youth there is so much trying to pull us away from God, but we have to remain armed so that when everything seems to be going wrong, and we feel attacked God’s righteousness in us protects our hearts and faith in the power of God shields us and we can fight back using the Word.

Choosing Our Future

Psalm 37:1-11

Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” So often you look around and people are not doing what they should be doing. Many of our friends have a short term view and to things to benefit them now. It looks like they are doing well, but God says to trust in Him and do things His way. Don’t go off course but stay with the Lord. The Lord exalts the righteous in good time. We are youth and have our whole lives ahead of us. We can risk our future happiness by having sex now, skipping school, drinking, doing drugs, disobeying our parents and refusing to help out around the house. Every little thing we do affects our future. Are we willing to wait on God and watch as we get exalted when the time comes to reap our actions?

Devoted To The Eternal Words

John 6:67-71

Judas was exposed to Jesus just like the rest of the disciples. He heard Jesus’ teachings and saw His miracles just like the rest of the disciples. What made him betray Jesus? Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall I go? You have the words of eternal life.” Peter and the 10 were submitted to Jesus. Jesus was their all in all. He commanded them to forsake all other things and follow Him and they did/ Judas kept his focus on the world and was overcome by the temptation of money. Nothing in this world can satisfy like the eternal words of Jesus. There is no joy outside of serving Him. When you understand that, you can say just like Peter, “Lord, to whom shall I go?”

Prayer: The Key

James 5:13-18

Pray, pray, pray. Prayer is the most powerful tool we have to get anything done because we are calling down God’s power into a situation. God promised to answer when we pray. We see from the example of Elijah that he prayed and God stopped the rain for him. What do we need that is bigger than that? Is anyone suffering? Let them pray. Is anyone sick? Let them pray. Is anyone in sin? Let them pray. Prayer is vital to the life of any Christian, so let’s begin to pray in every situation.

Judging Fruit

Matthew 7:15-20

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.” Fruit is important to the life of a believer. It is a standard that believers will use to judge your walk with God. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:24 to run in such a way that you may receive the prize. We are youth, but there will be a time that we must step up and begin to take our place in ministry, whatever that may be. If we don’t take time to judge fruit we might be hurting those we are meant to help. Judging fruit is something that will help you continue to grow. It will also help you know your leaders. Fruit don’t lie. No good tree produces bad fruit and no bad tree produces good fruit. “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

Good Fruit

Colossians 1:3-14

Fruit…it’s a small Word with big implications for the believer. Jesus said, “You shall know them by their fruit.” A person’s fruit is what you see radiating from their lives. Galatians 5 gives fruit of the flesh and fruit of the Spirit. Paul prays for the Colossians that the gospel will bear fruit in their lives and that they will be fruitful in every good work. Fruit is important because it identifies who you are. Good aerobic fitness and coordination identifies an athlete; bad language, loud music and bad attitude identify a gangster; love, joy, peace, etc. identify a Christian. The fruit you produce tells a lot about what is going on inside you. Jesus delivered you from sin and all He asks is to let His Spirit work inside you to produce good fruit. How’s about we give Him good fruit?

The House of The Lord

Psalm 122

Are you glad to go to church? Many times I tell my friends I go to church three or four times a week and they are shocked. The common question is, “Why do they make you go so much?” What many people don’t understand is that when God’s people gather together to pray and to worship, it’s a beautiful thing I am glad to go to church because there is a sweet anointing when believers gather to worship together. Are you excited to go to the House of the Lord, or are you focused on what other things you could be doing? Have you experienced the fullness of joy that is in God’s presence? When you have, you can say like King David that “I am glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the House of the Lord.’”

Check Out God's Creation

Psalm 19:1-14

When was the last time you watched the sun rise? It’s a beautiful thing to watch the earth get brighter. Objects that were dull begin to display their vibrant nature. Flowers open and birds begin to sing (when it’s not winter). God created sunrise. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Beauty is everywhere and it’s all created by God. When God saw all He had created, He said it was good. Take time to admire what God has made and thank your God for creating it all.

Divine Protection

Psalm 31:1-8

You know, I watch a lot of football and one thing that impresses me is a good offensive line. A good offensive line protects a quarterback, giving him time to do his job. Anyone who wants to get at a quarterback has to pass through a rick wall. God is like our offensive line in many ways. He is our rock and fortress. He delivers us out of traps laid by our enemy. “Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, o Lord God of truth.” God is always there to protect us from anything life tries to throw at us. When the pressure is up, we know can count on Him. Let God shield you. Commit yourself to His care and see if He will not uphold you.

Loving God

Revelations 2:1-7

Ever feel like you’re always working to get to God? Sometimes it may feel like you’re always struggling to get closer to God and He’s just up there watching. The diagnosis may be that you’ve lost your first love. Remember how it was when you first got saved? Remember the excitement, the desire to spend time in God’s presence? Has prayer now become a chore? The Ephesians did good works, but without love, it didn’t mean much (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Today, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works.” When you love God, there is a passion within you that you cannot hold in. Ask Holy Spirit to fill you with that fire again.

Where there's a will...

2 Kings 12:1-16

When something is done for God, He makes it happen. Jehoash wanted t repair the temple and so he turned to the priests for help; they didn’t come through. Jehoash could have quit but he knew that when you do something for God, He makes it happen. He put an offering box at the temple gate and the offerings were enough to do all the repairs. Even more, the workers were faithful with the money. When you do something for God, He makes it happen. Whatever is laid on your heart to do for The Kingdom, go out and do it and trust God to bless your efforts. And if you want proof, well… you’re reading this devotional, aren’t you?

Spiritual Diet

1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1

“Everything Is Spiritual.” That’s the title of a lecture presented by Christian speaker, Rob Bell. The message of that lecture is that too many times we separate our life into “spiritual life” and “everything else.” Our spiritual life is not just when we pray and read the Bible. Everything is spiritual. Christianity is not limited to church; it manifests itself in every facet of our lives, even in how we eat. We don’t determine our diet by the Law of Moses; we are free to eat what we want. But if our diet offends someone else, especially a brother/sister in Christ, then how can we thank God for the food? “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks, or to the Church of God…” Showing God’s love sometimes involves putting away some things for the sake of people because everything is spiritual.

...And He Believed The Lord

Genesis 15:1-6

We all know the story of Abram, turned Abraham. He was old and God said, “You’re having a kid.” You know what? Abram believed Him. That’s Faith. Verse 6 tells us, “And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” It must have been hard to see God’s promise from his situation, but he chose to believe. He did everything the Lord asked him to do and he did them willingly. This is more spectacular considering Abram probably had no previous experience with God. He came from a pagan land with no bible, no Holy Spirit, no Spiritual mentors; we have all that. Through God’s Word, we can see examples of how God showed His faithfulness and the Holy Spirit brings to life God’s Word. So what’s stopping us from believing? God hasn’t changed. He was faithful to Abram and He is faithful towards you.

Doing It To God

Colossians 3:12-17

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” We are urged as believers to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering and most importantly, love. The Word of God is to dwell richly in us. We are to forgive one another. Seems like a lot of work and it doesn’t sound like fun. School is not a place to be meek because we are expected to get our voices heard. Kindness is cool, but longsuffering… not so much. How do we live like the bible wants us to? In everything we do, we do it unto the Lord. The Bible says, “Whatsoever you do for the least of these, you do for [God].” When you show love to someone, it’s shown to God. When you minister to someone, you minister to the Lord. That should make us do what we should for others.

Contemporary Miracles

Matthew 12:38-42

Why did Jesus perform miracles? He did to convince people He was God. In the Acts, the apostles did miracles to verify the gospel they preached. Anywhere you see miracles in the New Testament, they are usually accompanied by people getting saved. I hear this question a lot: “Why doesn’t God do miracles anymore?” Jesus answered that here in today’s text. He said, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Miracles happen to lead people to God, but when a heart is hardened against God, any miracle would simply be rationalized. When Jonah went to the city of Nineveh, he spoke the Word and the people were saved. The Word is the most important too we have. Signs and wonders come to those who will believe

Humility

John 13:3-15

“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments… and began to wash the disciples’ feet.” Jesus knew He was God. He knew He was great and He was willing to perform the most menial of jobs. And guess what? We are to be imitators of God. Not that we have to go around washing feet, but we have to be humble in all things. One thing I find is that people always seem to “disrespect” teens by asking us to do the little jobs, to leave our seats to make room for adults, to go into the cold to fetch something for another. Let’s learn to humble ourselves, not matter what we know we are called to be. The one who wants to be great I God’s kingdom must first be a servant to all.

Making Peace

Matthew 5:21-26

“Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go your way.” The bible tells us here that if we know someone has a grudge against us, we should go resolve it before we pray. We are taught to live at peace with all men. A Christian’s testimony is his character and it takes real character to initiate peace. The beatitudes show so much about a Christian’s life. Jesus lived this life and we are to imitate Christ. God values peace and as such we are to make peace.
